Synopsis

The neglected siblings Roland and Paul watch the deportation of
their immigrant neighbours. After that the police has left,
they decide to enter the abandoned apartment. Inside they discover
another world; exotic food, music, clothes and make-up, belonging
to the deported family. For a moment they have the chance to
immerse themselves in a world of games and play - however
when their father discovers them, they are quickly brought back to reality.

Director’s statement

I wanted to make a film about two children who grow close due to dysfunctional
family relations. Through the use of sparse dialogue and minimal mimic, the
precarious situation in which the children live slowly unfolds. Ultimately HUNGER
depicts the story about two young siblings who are confronted with a tragic situation
that they cannot fully comprehend and instead see as a moment of play.

von allen anderen Filmen im Wettbewerb ab. Die einfühlsame Kamera
bleibt immer nah an den kleinen Schauspielern dran und bringt den
Zuschauer in ein Wechselspiel zw. Nähe und Distanz.
Die sehr gelungene Schauspielführung hat uns besonders überzeugt.
